  • April 29, 2009 | Erratum
    An error was made in the listing of the Top Adjudicators for the tournament. Pam Chan (ADMU) should have been ranked 7th, and Jayson Maulit (SBC) is ranked 8th. The appropriate changes have been made in the list below.   • April 23, 2009 | PIDC Winners
    Congratulations to University of the Philippines, Diliman A, composed of Diane Claire Jiao, Christian Marx Villa and Raymund Vitorio for winning the Philippine Inter-Collegiate Debating Championship 2009: The Philippine Daily Inquirer Cup. Congratulations as well to the runner-ups from University of the Philippines, Manila A, Carol Tan, Robert Totanes, and Lee Yarcia. The best speaker of the finals was Diane Claire Jiao.

  • April 14, 2009 | Adj Core Announcements
    PIDC 2009: The Philippine Daily Inquirer Cup begins tomorrow with the Tournament Briefing and Adjudication Exam. Please be informed of the following schedule:

    1:00-1:15 PMPreliminaries
    1:15-2:15 PMAdjudication Seminar Proper
    2:15-2:45 PMOpen Forum
    2:45-3:15 PMTournament Briefing
    3:15-4:15 PMTest Debate
    4:15-5:15 PMTesting Period

    The Adjudication Core has also said that they will be skipping the basics at the seminar, and in line with this, they would like all adjudicators to read this basic primer prepared by Adrian Rabe, M.D. While adjudicators are required to be at the adjudication seminar and tournament briefing, debaters are also invited to attend.

    An updated list of registered institutions can also be found in Registration page of this website. For any questions or concerns about this list, please coordinate with Anna Arcellana, Communications Director, either today or tomorrow, during Phase 3 Registration, which will run for the entire afternoon at the UP Diliman NISMED Auditorium. The seminar will also be held in this venue.

  • April 10, 2009 | Final reminders for the tournament

    The Philippine Daily Inquirer Cup
    We are pleased to announce that the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the country's leading daily newspaper, has signed on to support the tournament, now known as the Philippine Inter-Collegiate Debating Championship: The Philippine Daily Inquirer Cup. The Inquirer proudly supports activities such as this collegiate debating tournament that seek to promote awareness of current events and nurture readership among the youth, making the PIDC a unique platform for the cultivation of skills and talents that can help make a difference.

    Socials Reminders
    A dress code will be implemented at the break night venue; please take note of the following reminders:
    • For Men: No slippers/sandals of any kind, no tank tops/sleveless tops, no baseball caps, no baggy clothes, no rubber shoes/running shoes
    • For Women: No rubber slippers, no baseball caps, no rubber shoes/running shoes
    There will be an open bar during the break night. In line with this, the Board of Directors would like to remind the participants to not drink and drive. Please feel free to approach any member of the Board of Directors if you need assistance with regard to this event.

    Registration Reminders, Change of Schedule
    The results of Phase 2 Registration can now be viewed on this page. For any questions or concerns regarding this list, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Communications Director, Anna Arcellana, via email. Also, please check out an updated version of the tournament schedule, which can be found on this page. Changes have been made to the schedule for April 18 - 20, and Quarterfinals was moved from the 19th to the 20th. Please be guided accordingly.

  • March 15, 2009 | Adj Core Updates, Registration Reminders

    Adjudication Core Updates
    We are pleased to announce the confirmation of two more members into the PIDC 2009 Adjudication Core. The full team is now composed of the following people:

    Important Registration Reminders
    We would like to thank all institutions that have registered for the tournament. The updated names of these schools, along with the number of teams & adjudicators they will be sending, are listed on this page. Everyone must please be reminded of the following as well:

    • For institutions that have completed all requirements for Phase 1 Registration:
      The slots of these institutions have been secured; they may fulfill all the requirements of Phase 2 registration on or before March 27, 2009 (Friday).

    • For institutions that have pending requirements for Phase 1 Registration:
      These institutions must complete the pending requirements for Phase 1 Registration, along with the requirements for Phase 2 registration on or before March 27, 2009 (Friday). Slots are only secured upon fulfillment of all the requirements for registration. For any questions or concerns about this, please get in touch with the Communications Director right away.

    • For institutions that were not able to join the Phase 1 Registration:
      These institutions may still register during Phase 2, but the granting of slots is now on a first come, first served basis upon completion of all registration requirements:
      • Submission of the Phase 2 registration form through the PIDC website
      • Full payment of the registration packages
      Since the deadline is fast approaching (Phase 2 ends in two weeks), we highly encourage these institutions that have not yet registered to do so right away. Please note that as of today, 46 team slots out of the set tournament cap of 70 teams have already been taken. There are only 24 more slots available.

    • Early Deadline for Stay-In Registration:
      In compliance with the requests of our accommodations partners, the PIDC team would like to ask all institutions that are availing of stay-in packages to please confirm with Communications Director Anna Arcella on or before March 23, 2009 (Monday). This is so we can secure enough rooms for your contingent before the peak season arrives.


  • March 9, 2009 | Phase 1 Registration Updates
    The PIDC team would like to thank the institutions that have completed Phase 1 Registration. A list of these schools and the corresponding number of teams and adjudicators that they will be sending to the tournament can be found on the Registration page of this website.

    Phase 2 Registration for PIDC 2009 is now open, and will close on March 27, 2009. Kindly fill out the Phase 2 Registration form and deposit the balance that is due your contingent following the procedures outlined in the tournament profile and on this page.

    Please note that as of March 9, a total of 39 team slots have already been secured by different institutions. Since the tournament cap is at 70 teams, there are only 31 more slots available. For institutions that were not able to join Phase 1 Registration, slots will be granted on a first come, first served basis to those that are able to pay full registration fees. Schools that were able to finish Phase 1 Registration may pay their fees fully on or before March 27, 2009.

    The PIDC team was able to secure some discounts for Stay-In Registration. Please go to this page to view the new rates and accommodations arrangements for both lodging options. The deadline for completing Phase 1 Reigstration is this Friday, February 27, 2008.

  • February 24, 2009 | Adj Core Updates & Schedule Changes
    PIDC 09 is pleased to welcome Priyam Saraf from Singapore Management University, who will be joining the tournament as Deputy Chief Adjudicator.

    Phase 1 registration is still on-going. Please note that changes have been made to the tournament schedule, including a Pre-Council Meeting for all institution representatives on April 19, 2009. The ESU Public Speaking Competition, which is still open to all PIDC participants, has also been moved to March 14, 2009. For more details regarding this event, visit the official website.
