What is PIDC?

With over 300 expected student and affiliate attendees from all over the country and Asia, the Philippine Inter-Collegiate Debating Championship (PIDC) 2012 is the largest and most competitive locally organized debate tournament. It will be held from April 9-14 at various venues within the University of the Philippines, Diliman and nearby areas.

The PIDC 2012 is the 11th national Asian Parliamentary tournament organized by the UP Debate Society, and the sixth installment of the PIDC series (PIDC 2007: Ninoy Aquino Cup; PIDC 2008: The Sun Life Cup; PIDC 2009: The Inquirer Cup; PIDC 2010 and PIDC 2011: PDI Cup).

What Happens in PIDC?

The Debates

Participants will compete in seven tough preliminary rounds to become part of the top 16 teams qualifying for the suspense-filled Finals Series. After the four grueling knockout rounds in the series, one team will emerge as the National Champion.

Social Events

Despite its highly competitive atmosphere, PIDC 2012 offers a venue to meet new friends and socialize. To break the ice, we warmly welcome the participants to Opening Lunch. The Break Night Party, a much-awaited night of music and dance, caps off the preliminaries with a toast to the qualifying teams for the Finals Series. As the culminating event of the tournament, the Championship Dinner awards the Best Speakers, Top Adjudicators and National Champions.

Issue Forum

Posing relevant questions to young minds, PIDC invites influential speakers to talk about the most pressing issues of today. Benchmarking the basics, past speakers include former Senate Presidents Franklin Drilon and Aquilino Pimentel Sr., and celebrity economist Prof. Solita “Winnie” Monsod. The Issue Forum is open to all, including non-participants who may want to join in the discussion.

Sinag Cup

Celebrating national diversity, the Sinag Cup invites the highest ranked novice teams from the four major regions in the Philippines (National Capital Region, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao) to battle it out for both regional and national recognition.
